Conical strainers offer higher strength and can be built with a large filter area. The critical particle size is determined according to the part of the plant to be protected and selected from a large number of wire meshes, mostly in stock, with a suitable mesh size.

If the installation length is not limited, it is possible to maximize the length of the strainer so that a ratio of the free filter area to the pipe cross-section up to 3.0 (300%) is achieved. The increased free screen area occur very low differential pressures during operation. Already in the planning phase Kossik Filtertechnik GmbH offers the calculation of the resulting differential pressure in the clean and in the 50% clogged case in order to be able to determine the design of the maximum allowable differential pressure (burst pressure).

Reversed installation position of the strainers with flow from the outside to the inside is available. Conical strainers with very fine mesh are protected from destruction by "fluttering" or larger particles by additional protective and intermediate meshes with a coarse mesh size and stable wires and are particularly suitable for use in permanent operation.
